Experiential Learning for School Going Children

Parents play an important role in children education!

The experiential learning program is designed on a hybrid model where the learner participants carry out physical activities at home and the study support contents are delivered in a virtual group online. The non-intrusive, self paced, asynchronous mode of engagement gives a lot of freedom and flexibility to the young minds. The contemporary lifestyle of the parents sometime prohibit their participation in the childen education.  And hence the program mentors, facilitators, subject matter experts are connected by leveraging the technology platforms like messaging tools.

It is also true that there are many lessons what the parents could learn along with their children seamlessly, making it more joyful. The grand-parents too find their contributions valuable in this initiative. In fact, parents and everyone in the family are the direct  beneficiaries of gardening as a learning tool.

A Real Story

We were staying in a rented accommodation, one of the DDA apartments at Delhi, two years back. We liked the housing society for its green cover in the common area. However, there was no space at all for our home garden due to cemented parking space to accommodate overcrowd of cars in the neighborhood.

But, God had different plan for us! One of the telecom company started digging the concrete structure to lay the fiber optics cable. Once.  their job is done, I did not allow them to cement it again. Instead acquired a small piece of mud land to begin with gardening activities. Of course, it was just a 3X3 sq ft area.

Seven months later, one of my friends, an IT professional and a son of a retired IAS officer visited me. I was proud to flaunt my gardening skills and showed him beautifully grown dwarf Banana Tree.  He appreciated it, but asked me which tree was this?  Poor guy could not recognize a Banana Tree although he eats the fruit everyday probably.

It was a shock to me! I realized the hard fact that a generation born and bought up in urban area is totally disconnected with the nature. Something went wrong with our education system. The culture of "rat race"  has defeated us.  And now the widespread high-rise buildings, increased urban migration and great distractions like electronic gadgets are doing more harm than its real benefits to the society.
